Fun Run 4 now feels snappier, smoother, and more responsive than ever. Every jump, slide, and slam happens the instant you press it.

Technical mumbo jumbo

Netcode is tricky, and balancing responsive gameplay and smooth visuals has been one of our focus areas for Fun Run 4. We knew we wanted to make a big improvement from Fun Run 3 and created our own deterministic game engine with rollback to make Fun Run 4 as good as it can be. This allows much more control of the gameplay and is what supports features like the replay system. It also eliminates a whole class of hacks/exploits to keep the game fair for everybody.

Once the system worked, our main worry was making it look & feel invisible for players (most players of accessible mobile games do not want to know anything about the netcode). With netcode, everything is a trade-off. The version we have all been playing since launch makes the netcode look pretty invisible, but not feel invisible.

After much feedback from players, measuring real world network conditions, alienating players with high ping and internal testing we are happy to conclude that the input delay was causing more harm than good.

Starting with version 2.32.0, input delay is removed without further ceremony. The catch?

You’re gonna have to learn when to jump & slam again. This will likely be you in the next few races:
